Prasart Hin Pimai (Pimai Stone Castle)

Prasart Hin Pimai is the largest sand stone sanctuary in Thailand located at the center of ancient Phimai city which covers 665 metres wide and 1,030 metres long. The ruins of the ancient Khmer architecture have been preserved as a National Historical Park.

Description

The monument is surrounded with two red sandstone walls. There are punctuated by gate towers at four cardinal points (North, South, East and West). The main entrance is decorated with a great Nagas balustrade where there are ancient routes cut from Angkor. These inscriptions of different periods coincide with the characteristics of the artifacts found inside the main pagoda. The well-restored ruins of Phimai Sanctuary is estimated to be done during late 11 th - mid 12 th centuries.

Local Transportation

  • Car: Take Highway no. 1 (Phaholyothin) to Saraburi and turn right on Highway no. 2 (Mittraphap) to Nakhon Ratchasrima with a total distance about 259 kilometres or take Highway no. 305 passing Nakhon Nayok and then take Highway no. 33 to Krabin Buri and then turn left along Highway no. 304 passing Pak Thong Chai to Nahon Ratchasrima.
  • Bus: Both air-conditioned and non air-conditioned buses leave Bangkok's Northern and North-Eastern Bus Terminal (Mochit 2) to Nakhon Ratchasrima province daily and then take to Prasart by local bus.
  • Train: Take train to Nakhon Ratchasrima from Bangkok's Hualumphong Railway Station and then take to Prasart by local bus.
  • Air: Take a flight leaving Bangkok to Nakhon Ratchasrima province at International Airport everyday.

    • Before you will travel to each place, please make sure about way to go there including both time schedule and open-close time.
