Kampaengphet Province

Kampaengphet province is historical city built since Thavaravadhi era about 700 years ago. It had been location of many ancient cities such as Chakungrow, Nakornchum, Tri-Tueng, Thepnakorn and Kanathi city. Its name was formerly "Chakungrow". There are many historical evidences such as ancient walls, tunnels, fortress and temples. It is assumed that originate from two cities as "Chakungrow" built by Phrachao Lerthai and "Nakornchum" built by Phrachao Lithai in Sukhothai era. It was frontier city for preventing enemy from the north.

   
 
 

Kampaengphet province is covering area about 8,607 square kilometres and its population is about 726,500 persons. Most area is forest, mountain and plain There is one of the most important historical place as "Kampaengphet Historical Park" promoted to be world heritage from UNESCO because there are many ancient buildings and infrastructures. Furthermore there are natural places such as Namtok Klonglarn National Park and Mae-Wong National Park.

Local Transportation

  • Car: Take highway no. 1 ( Phaholyothin Rd. ) and take highway no. 32 (Sai Asia) passing Ayutthaya, Angthong, Singburi and Nahonsawan province and then take highway no. 1 to Kampaengphet province. Total distance is about 358 kilometres.
  • Bus: Both air-conditioned and non air-conditioned buses leave Bangkok's Northern and North-Eastern Bus Terminal (Mochit 2) to Kampaengphet province daily.
